Aiko sighed as she held the paper giving her permission to work. Being an explorer was about freedom and adventure, not nearly freezing to death in what could only be described in Snow Hell Country with no money for proper food and warm clothes. There was only so much a child such as herself could take without giving in. She needed money and she needed it now.
The paper said to clean up this special room. What kind of room was it? Aiko opened the door and a powerful stench blew over her. The air was so warm. It was like a giant hand was grabbing her face.
"If you have any questions, give me a call. I will be sitting in the hallway."
That was Kagehisa Kudo. He was a Choonean or something to that sort who was in charge of the room. He did not share a lot of information saying that immigrants did not need to know these things. He did promise to get her a job so Aiko overlooked all the secrecy for now. Though it bugged her, her stomach and freezing body was more then enough motivation.
The girl wrapped her around her nose and hair to protect her form the stench and keep her hair clean. Then she walked into room with a mop and two buckets. She could not remember the last time she actually did a chore like this. She could already hear her mother as she half heartily dragged the head along the brownish red floor.
"Aiko, use two hands. Aiko, make sure to ring out the mop. Aiko, stop stacking off."
That nagging voice, the girl missed her. A tear rolled down her face into the scarf.
Aiko returned to the bucket before noticing a small drain in corner of the room. She dragged her bucket over there and rung out the mop. The water was tainted red, making the girl wonder what she was mopping.
"Kudo"
"Kudo SAN. So some respect you bum," he yelled.
Aiko groaned before letting the insult go, "Kudo-san, is the water suppose to turn red?"
"I don't know. Maybe? The room is dirty so the water is bound to change color. Just hurry up. I have a date to go on."
Aiko moved dipped the mop back in the bucket and worked her way to the edge of the room. It took her a bit but moving in circles was a hell of a lot faster at picking up the brown stuff than just going over it in a single stroke. It was almost like painting, if painting has a really bad smell of death that dragged a knife into your nose. At after an hour, the girl was finished.
The smell did not go away but the brown floor was now bluish grey. You could make out the brown wooden block with metal bolts in the center of the room. The walls were smooth with a pattern matching the floor. This whole room was probably made by stacking blue bricks together. It was still really dark and gloomy. Hopefully what every happened here does happen again. If it did, Aiko was sure she could clean it up much faster!
The boy inspected the room. checking every inch and looking paying special attention to the wooden square in the middle. "I have to say, you immigrants work hard. I did not expect you to finish for another hour our so."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out some bills.
"Thank you Kudo" Aiko watched as the boy's face started to turn red, "oh uh...san? Kudo san."
"Learn some culture before you come back to me for work. Got it?"
Before the girl could respond, he wrapped a blindfold around her face and walked her outside. After 10 minutes he removed it and then disappeared. The girl shook her head. Did he not know, people could use hearing to figure out where they were? Still, he did pay her so she did not care. Overall it was a mission success!
