It was an early morning with clear skies, the warmth and light shining onto the land and waters, and not a single cloud in sight to say otherwise. Kikyo sat in a canoe that was set to sail towards the borders of the Marsh Country with her red paper umbrella above her head to help shield her from the sun and the paddle near her feet. Recently, rumors have emerged among the village that there was an illegal organ trade going on near the borders. It was enough to not only raise concern, but also create an investigation; that was where Kikyo was called in and was put in this investigation.
Kikyo would've never thought that such a trade would exist; people willing to sell their organs for money or even as far as to take people's lives for them. It made her wonder how far people would go for even the smallest amount of ryo or other things that could be considered valuable for others. Just the thought of even selling organs alone left a sour taste in Kikyo's mouth. She knew there were some sick people out there, but the scale of how sick some people could be would be nearly unreadable.
Of course, Kikyo wasn't going alone. She was told that someone would be joining. If she recalled correctly, it was a woman named Mukanshin. She didn't know much about this woman, other than the simple fact that they were partner-in-crimes solely for this mission. She wouldn't know how their relationship would run once they meet and start their mission, so she only hoped things would run smoothly.
The white haired woman leaned back on the canoe and made a soft sigh. The only thing she could do at the moment was to just sit and wait while she felt herself slowly dozing off.

Mukanshin hummed to herself with a small grin as she approached the meeting grounds. Her adornments consisted of simple black leggings and a dark kimono top, perfect for blending in to the shadowed environment of the Mirewood. The older woman's hair was tied up tightly into a bun, to prevent it from being grabbed. She was technically retired, she still found herself taking missions every once in a while, although whether it was to brighten her monotonous existence or actually assist the village, even she didn't know. It was relatively early. The morning fog had yet to lift fully, but trickles of gleaming sunlight filtered in from the canopy above. Eventually, the medic found herself approaching a river not too distant from the Hidden Marsh village. A small canoe rested gently upon it, a single occupant already inside with a red umbrella grasped in her hands. The assignment required stealth- but hopefully the jounin in front of her would put it away when the duo got closer to their destination. She vaguely recalled the name of her assigned partner for the mission- Kikyo. From what she had heard around the village, she was a Senju as well. Mukanshin hummed to herself. She herself was not a Senju anymore, but she couldn't deny that the facial features of Kikyo were familiar- a curve of the chin, the shape of the eyes... The girl in front of her had fought in the war. She had seen her once or twice around the village, although she had never bothered with introductions. It was possible that she would recognize her as well. The most influential figure of Numachigakure's hospital was a person many would rather be acquainted with than not, especially in a wartime environment. The ex Senju exhaled through her nose at the thought. Worse came to worse, she'd be around to patch the jounin in front of her up if the mission went awry. But the thought of the battlefield left her gut stirring not unpleasantly. She liked combat, but that didn't change the fact that she was largely sequestered within the village after psychological tendencies towards violence were unearthed unpleasantly. A simple satchel at her hip weighed heavily with every step she took. Within it were assorted bandages, salves, and surgical knives that could be used in unpleasant scenarios. Hopefully, though, the assignment would turn out well. The girl water walked to the canoe, chakra focused on the bottom of her feet, and lowered herself gently into the other seat. The boat barely moved as she did so. She gave a pleasant grin to the woman. Although close friends found the smile reassuring, strangers and younger shinobi often found it frightening and unnatural. She vaguely wondered which one the person in front of her would be? "Greetings." she spoke softly. "My name is Mukanshin, and I will be your partner for this mission." she tilted her head slightly, taking in Kikyo's appearance. "I'm afraid I'm not a combat type. I'm better at stitching people together than tearing them apart." A blatant lie. She hummed to herself. "Let us be on our way." [WC: 521/2,000] [Total WC: 521/2,000]

Kikyo lazily opened one eye as she heard a voice call out to her. She was lucky that she didn’t fall too deep into slumber, that would’ve made her look really unprofessional. Her eye slowly slid about as she spotted a woman already entered in the canoe without Kikyo even detecting the slightest movement or sound. The white haired woman didn’t bother questioning it, what mattered that what seemed to be her partner. As she rose her other eye, the woman flashed a rather unsettling smile. She would admit she was little more or less bothered by most likely an unintentional expression, but what she went through in her younger years were more disturbing than anything.
But now that she had gotten a better look of the woman, the name became all too familiar as it was introduced; a familiarity that brought back too much haunting and traumatizing memories if she dug deep in her memories. Just looking back at the past made Kikyo’s face visibly cringe out of spite. She was sure she might’ve met this woman in the hospital to treat her wounds, but the white haired woman would rather not like to recall the memories that came before it.
Kikyo shook her head as her face shifted away from an uncomfortable expression to a genuine smile. ”Hello, Mukanshin-san. The pleasure of meeting you is mine.” She said as she slightly bowed her head at the woman. When she mentioned that she wasn’t a fighter, Kikyo made an understanding nod. It was somewhat of a crutch on the white haired woman’s part. By the sound of it, it looked like Kikyo might do all the dirty work if things go down that route. ”No worries, it is better than going alone. It is also a plus to be with a medic. At least then, I can have someone to heal wounds instead of leaving them untreated.” She mentioned.
She then brought herself up to her feet with her free hand holding the paddle. Kikyo would proceed to hand Mukanshin the open umbrella while the white haired woman would be occupied paddling the canoe. ”If you want, you may use the umbrella to shield yourself from the sun. If not, you may also close set it down for me.” She offered with her smile still in place. That was when Kikyo began to row the canoe down the river as hastily as she could. ”If I’m not mistaken, this all takes place within the borders, which seems like a somewhat lengthy trip, so I suppose you can get a little comfortable until then.”

The umbrella's handle was warm in her hands as she took it from the Senju in front of her. Close it or set it down? She wasn't adverse to sunlight. From the little chakra papers she had used long ago, back when her age was still in the single digits, her primary affinity was fire. Although the ex-clansman had never officially learned any fire release jutsu, it still remained that she was considerably more comfortable in intense heat and light than other people from the Hidden Marsh. She hummed to herself slightly, smile not wavering. She gently folded the umbrella before placing it at the kunoichi's side. Although she didn't have to make noise, she did so anyway with the intention of telegraphing her actions- sneaking up on ninja (whether they be friend or foe) was never a good idea. The borders were quite a ways away. There likely weren't any foes this close to their home village... She might as well make herself comfortable. She opened her mouth gently, and Mukanshin's gentle voice carried across the water. "Nani teri Morni ko Mor le gaye..." it was an old lullaby, introduced to her by her late brother before his passing. The girl in front of her might be familiar with it- Hachima Senju had a notorious soft spot towards children. Perhaps he had sung it before for her? "Baki jo baacha tha kaale chor le gaye, baki jo baacha tha kaale chor le gaye..." the rest of the lyrics left her mouth, and she closed her lips with finality. The older woman, quiet in retrospection, would not speak for another half hour. "Tell me, Kikyo-san." her tone was soft, and her manner of speaking distant- a professional relationship, nothing more. "Where do you want to go next?" the question wasn't directed towards the mission, but rather the kunoichi and her future. Did she want to join the medicine corps? ANBU? Torture and interrogation? Although normally she wasn't too interested in other people, something in the woman in front of her was different. Maybe she reminded Mukanshin of her late brother, and it encouraged her to step past her apprehension. Maybe she saw herself in Kikyo- but either way, the question lingered in the air. She herself wanted to develop her interest in weaponry and ninjutsu further, as most of her life she had stuck with medicine. Her talent in poisons and antidotes left a few unique routes open for her as well- maybe poison centered medical jutsu would be something she could invent for her village? The older woman hummed to herself. For now, though, she was content with her semi retirement. She would need an apprentice at some point, though- someone to pass the hospital to, someone to take up the mantle of Numachigakure's chief medical expert... But all that could be handled later. Right now, she just wanted to focus on the mission at hand.. and perhaps learn a bit more about the estranged family member on the other side of the canoe. [WC: 505/2,000] [Total WC: 1,026/2,000]

The white haired woman didn't turn her head back, but she did hear the older woman sing while she continued to row. She couldn't help but shift her expression to a more bothered look. It was a melody she could recall on; most likely from her early childhood years, years that she thought she took too much advantage of as she's gotten older. Those were the years of innocence, hope, and determination to become one of the strongest and help protect her village well. As the woman was done, Kikyo's expression softened to a more neutral look with a small smile on her lips, even if the older woman couldn't see it. ”You have a lovely voice.” Was all she said as she made a small nod.
During the thirty minutes of silence, Kikyo looked around the area and quietly sighed to herself. She did want to strike up a conversation to past the time before they arrive to the borders, but she figured it would be for the best to stay quiet. The last thing she would want to do is to annoy the older woman in any way possible, especially if they were on a mission that could hinder their process of completing it. On the topic of borders, she could only imagine what this operation would look like once the two arrive to it. Of course she would have a strong stomach and mind prepared to witness whatever would be waiting for them to witness, but it was still the idea of this investigation that made Kikyo feel unsettled.
Kikyo would begin to space out as she rowed from the silence until the older woman would break the silence with a question. At first she assumed it would be during the mission, but something told her it was something a little deeper than that. It was simple but interesting if so, only because her priority in life was to make sure her brother was safe and help train him to become stronger. On the other hand, once her brother would be able to fight and survive on his own, which he was for the most part, what can Kikyo do? It wasn't something she actually thought about; not ever since she was left all alone to take care of her little brother.
The only thing Kikyo could do was chuckle as she shook her head. "Truth be told, I never gave it that much thought." She said, her attention still towards the waters. "After my parents were murdered during the war, I was left to take care of my little brother the majority of my life until he was all grown... and he is. He may not be fully capable among certain skills, but he does know how to fight overall and know how to take care of himself. That was my goal, to make sure that he can handle himself." She paused for a moment while she closed her eyes and made a heavy sigh, reminiscing trying to get her brother to safety and witnessing the murder of her parents. She then opened her eyes and continued on.
"He is the only real family I have, so of course I had to do everything I can to make sure he can defend himself. Now that he can handle himself for the most part, with another mentor and everything, it is as if I need to find another purpose in life. I... suppose I can only wait and see where life would take me next. That is what makes life unpredictable, right? Just waiting to see how the results would unfold." She explained. It wasn't exactly the best answer Kikyo can give in terms of where does she actually see herself in the future, but it was the only one she could afford to give. She did have considerations of going ANBU, but she'd rather just wait and see what the future had in store.
Luckily enough, the two women have arrived to the borders after ten more minutes of rowing in the mangrove swamp. Just in front of them, about sixteen yards away from them were the camps of the operations. Dark green tents were set up along the grassy lands with canopies set up behind the tents and some in front of them. Right on the center was a tent that was slightly bigger among the rest of them. Some people were seen lounging around the camp while others carried weaponry; mostly swords and spears from either defending the camp from outsiders or killing said outsiders from intruding their operations. Bags were scattered all over the camp, a few with blood stained on them and corpses lying around, most likely from innocent civilians or other shinobi being dragged against their will for their organs being ripped from their own bodies before their lives were taken away. In terms of population it looked small for the most part, there were a handful
"I believe this is our destination." The white haired woman announced as she set the canoe on land. While she stepped out of the canoe, she gently placed the paddle down inside it. She would've brought her umbrella, but it would've made her stick out like a sore thumb. Although it would've made things interesting, Kikyo would rather not try and endanger her partner.
Kikyo's eyes squinted from disgust as she stared at the camp for a few seconds before she would turn back to the older woman. "Now that we are here, it does seem there aren't that many people... but still enough to overpower the both of us in number. We can settle this in two ways. There is a tent larger than the rest of them in the center, so I can only assume there is a leader that is controlling everything behind the scenes. We can either sneak in and confront the leader or we can do that after identifying the people involved. If we get a hold onto them, then we can tell them to call off the operation." She explained. Even though Kikyo would most likely be doing the confrontation, she would still need the older woman's input. After all, the white haired woman wasn't the only one doing this mission.

She listened to the woman in front of her open up slightly. The Senju talked about a sibling- and how she didn't know where to go next. The parallels they shared seemed to grow stronger, but eventually a single, glaring difference was highlighted between the two. Kikyo's brother survived the war. The remains of Mukanshin's were locked away in a matchbox. What would have happened if their roles were reversed? What would have happened if the only person she didn't bother to wear a mask around was still alive? She'd still be in the Senju clan. Maybe she would have mellowed out rather than bottling her emotions. One day she'd snap- and she knew deep down that the connections of her village wouldn't be enough to stop her. Every day, Mukanshin made a conscious effort not to go dark. What would happen when the decision got harder? When the last binding threads of her morality grew taut? She didn't want to find out. The older woman exhaled through her nose slowly, not bothering to breathe back in until she had counted all the way up to ten. She hummed in response to her question once more and closed her eyes for a moment. Approximately ten minutes later, Kikyo's rowing seemed to slow down to a halt. The mangrove forest was especially thick in this area, and only the barest trickles of sunlight were enough to reach the bottom of the marsh. Around sixteen meters in front of them was a camouflaged camp- their base of operations, she assumed. Dark green in color, and disguised by outcropping plants and ferns, it would have been nearly invisible to a civilian. Of course, to a trained eye, it was much more apparent. A tent in the middle of the circle seemed larger than the rest- likely where the leader was situated. A handful of people walked around the camp. They seemed to be armed, albeit lightly. She noted to herself that their weapons weren't of ninja caliber make- it was likely that should they clash against one of their kunai, the blades and spear tips would break. She conveyed the information to her mission partner with a subtle whisper after she had announced their arrival. Hmm... there were certainly enough to outnumber the two, but were they prepared enough to overwhelm them if they attacked without warning? In the few seconds in which it would take to get over their surprise and react, she could easily take down two or three, and Kikyo could likely take down more. But... Perhaps there was a more subtle approach? "We can pick them off one by one," she murmured to the Senju beside her. "I will cast a shadow clone, and then place a genjutsu on one of them, and he'll exit the camp. We knock him out, and I can use the transformation technique to take his place. Then, my clone will cause a distraction. They'll turn immediately towards it. We position ourselves behind them, and, well... Killing them from the back should be easy." Should the kunoichi agree, she would cross her fingers in the shadow clone specific hand seal, and with a barely visible cloud of mist, another copy of her would appear on the shoreline. Quickly and silently, she made her way around fifteen meters to the side of the camp. She made an effort to hide herself behind some ferns and trees. The black of her clothing blended in well with the environment, something which she knew would be best used to her advantage. She followed quickly after that, eyeing her target- a greying man with thickly tanned skin and a wakizashi was near the edge of the camp, keeping watch. She flew through a few hand seals as quickly and quietly as possible. At first, he began to shift awkwardly. Then he scowled. Her genjutsu, in short and simple terms, made the victim feel like they had to pee. And there was a hidden component as well- she was subtly directing him to where she and her clone lay in wait. After a few moments, he stalked off, giving a hand sign to a man next to him. As he approached, she jabbed a small needle into the crook of his neck, directly into a pressure point. He collapsed in her arms shortly afterwards, and she gently laid him out on the forest floor. Next, she would silently take his blade off of him and strap it to her own hip. She formed a few quick hand signs and transformed into his exact likeness, and after a few moments, she attempted to emulate his walk and posture as she approached the camp. The man he flashed the hand sign to her nodded, and she nodded in response, assuming it was the right thing to do. After a few moments, a loud explosion echoed throughout the area- her clone had blown itself up in the loudest, most attention seeking manner possible. She quickly drew the stolen weapon and turned towards it expectantly. A few of the guards ran after the noise, and while their back was turned, she plunged the blade directly into the heart of one, Injected a lethal dose of poison into a second with a hidden syringe. She turned towards the third, and in moments she wrapped her hands around his neck. A quick jerk to the left, and he collapsed to the ground with a sickening crack. She turned towards the large tent, and drew a single kunai from a hidden pouch at her side. She dove inside, grabbing the first person she saw inside violently- a taller man who looked surprised to see her. She lunged at him and stopped the kunai a mere centimeter from an artery in his neck. "Come with us, and I won't show you just how much a medic can hurt you." Assuming he agreed, she would remove all weapons and potential weapons, wrap sharp wires around his wrists that would chafe painfully with every movement he made. When she saw Kikyo in a safe place, assuming the rest of the guards and operators were dead, she'd nod her head towards him. "Let's take him back to the village," she spoke calmly. "We can interrogate him there. Let T&I take a crack at him." should Kikyo want to do this, she would head back to the village, kunai at the stranger's throat the entire way. (((potential exit??))) Kikyo nodded her head as she agreed to go with the older woman’s plan. It looked like the older woman wanted to take them out from behind instead of taking them all on at once; not that she wouldn’t mind following the idea, but there was more fun to direct confrontation. She had full confidence in being able to easily take down the majority of those involved. Of course, that would be just her pride talking and would rather get this done quickly than in style. ”Very well. I will be waiting for your signal and I will take out the remaining members.” She reassured. As Mukanshin would prepare, the white haired woman went on to quietly dash to the base, closing the distance as she would hid herself within the trees and wait for an opening to take advantage of.
When the explosion was heard and the guards went about to investigate, that was when the white haired woman quietly, but quickly sprung out of the bushes and charged for one of the guards from behind. One of the guards she went for had their katana sheathed inside of the case that hung on their left side. As she grabbed the hilt with her left hand, she unsheathed the weapon and leveled the blade to his neck. In one motion, she dragged the blade right across his neck to the left, slitting his throat. The man choked on his own blood that began to fill his mouth as he grabbed his neck, tumbling to the ground as she tried to breath in some air. She immediately turned to the second guard that was to her right, but only just about five feet away from her from not noticing her first kill.
She was quick to approach the second guard and leveled the tip of her blade to his neck. In one move, she jerked the tip of the blade and eventually the rest of it through his neck. The second guard fell to the ground from the sudden attack, but Kikyo held onto the hilt with just enough strength for his neck to slide off. As his body fell, Kikyo used her free hand reached for his katana that was sheathed to the right side of him in a case.
Turning around the opposite side of the second guard’s corpse, Kikyo spotted another guard that was in front of her and closed the distance between the two by thrusting the two blades through his chest, killing him in an instant. Stepping back a bit, she lifted up her left foot and pushed it forward to slide the third guard’s corpse off of the now two bloodied katana.
Right after her third kill, there were two more guards; one on her left and the other on her right. Aiming her two swords, she slung the katana, as if they were projectile weapons, towards their backs. The katana were easily able to stab through their backs and the blades fully sticking out of their chests before they collapsed to the ground.
With three more guards in her path, one on the left, one on the right, and one in the center, she decided to take them out from left to right. Kikyo ran to the guard on the left and threw a simple yet powerful punch from behind and right on his cheek, using all of her strength to knock him out in one blow. Kikyo then went after the guard in the middle, lifted up her right leg, and proceed it to swipe it right on his head with all of her strength to knock him out in one kick. With one guard left, she ran to him and followed through the plan of attacking from behind with just one more brutal punch, exactly the same of how she took out the guard on the left.
By the time she was done, Mukanshin already had the leader of the operation out from the large tent held captive. ”My, and here I thought you were not the fighting type.” She said with a chuckle in reference to her observing the older woman being able to take down three guards.
Kikyo would return to the canoe with Mukanshin and the leader of the operation held by the older woman and row their way back to the village for interrogation.
