The young scholar shuffled forwards through the weekend crowds within the Iron City, his arm extended in front of him as he gently nudged oncoming civilians out of the way. In truth, Oliver Blackwell had no idea what he was doing up at this time- he had spent a long night reading, and therefore was more than a little exhausted. The clouds above were dark and heavy, threatening to open above the populace at any moment. He managed to edge his way into a small cafe, where he simply sat in the back corner and took out his book. Placing it on the table, he carefully pulled out assorted papers and documents- to an outsider, they might have looked like garbled nonsense, but to a trained eye, it was advanced genjutsu theory. Not just the type of illusion that would petrify or cause fear- true, mind altering power. An unfamiliar feeling welled up within him. His temple throbbed slightly as pressure built behind his skull. He placed his head in his hands and awkwardly rubbed the offending spot until the feeling faded. Such occurrences were happening more and more frequently... It was not unlike the feeling of being watched. Like there was something else within his own skin.
Grumbling to himself, he gathered the papers into a neat-ish pile and placed them gently back inside the cover of his tome. He managed to scrounge around in his pockets and produced a miraculously clean and unwrinkled parchment, and he made a few experimental sketches on it. A few notes here and there, hidden by looping lines and rough edges, linking together to produce the form of a large, black dog. His fingers had drops of ink staining the skin by now, but he couldn't find it in himself to care. Right now, he just wanted to develop his own genjutsu. He wasn't entirely sure what he wanted it to do, of course, but he was hoping it could produce a loud sound of sorts that would stun? He put the edge of the fountain pen in his mouth, the tip pointing diagonally towards the parchment. Something like an illusionary scream, or a thunderously loud noise. Glass breaking? Thunder? He tapped his chin. He supposed he could work it out later, but it was always nice to have a partner to test stuff with.
He'd been intending to leave the Iron City for quite a while now- he wasn't entirely sure where he wanted to go, however. Chusekigakure? Shimagakure? Surely the larger of the two hidden villages would be more accepting of a scholar... Maybe he'd think it through thoroughly at a later date, when the creeping feeling of exhaustion no longer lingered in the back of his consciousness. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small pocket watch. It was roughly noon. Oliver figured he could stay out in public for a while longer before retreating back into his room turned study. Sage knew he could use the break.
Then he got bored and left because Kenshin never posted.
