Kaguya Nobuko
Rank: C
Age: 21Gender: Female
Appearance: Nobuko stands tall at six feet, with an average build for her height. She has a straight, prominent nose and tired-looking eyes, a trait that she doesn’t usually hide with makeup. Her skin is a deep tan, and her hair is dyed a fiery orange, partially tied up into a small bun atop her head and the rest falling around her head in a cheek-length cascade save for blunt bangs atop her shaved-to-a-dot eyebrows. Her choice of eyebrow colour and eyeliner ranges but usually tends towards either warm tones or muted greens, usually joined by a heart drawn on to her lips. Her hands range from soft to tough and flaky-looking from frostbite scars, and she is missing her ring and pinkie fingers on her right hand. She is also missing a toe on her right foot, less obviously visible due to her not really ever going barefoot or open-toe.
Nobuko dresses very colourfully in casual wear, preferring loose and comfortable clothing that stands out with primarily warm colours and cool accents. Her base layers in her shinobi outfit tend to be similar unless the situation calls specifically for stealth. She got pushed off a cliff wearing her flak jacket and it shows, the material frayed and torn and nicked and generally well-loved all over, with a naked lady lovingly and tastefully handpainted by her on the back panel for good measure. Nobuko usually wears her forehead protector backwards on her head, tying it up top between her bangs and her bun.
Village: Chuseki
Clan: Kaguya
Bloodline: Shikotsumyaku, Stoic, May I have this dance?
Specialty: Taijutsu
Element: Earth
Personality: Nobuko’s life is primarily ruled by frustration that she cannot place. She is polite and respectful but has an unfortunate tendency to antagonize people out of boredom and latent anger when she can get away with it. More productively, she sinks that energy into a wide smattering of shallow hobbies like painting or music, but much like refining her taijutsu they bring little satisfaction outside of a brief rush when she’s praised for it. Much of her less sociable behaviour is submerged under a vague self-awareness that this behaviour is immature, and Nobuko is perfectly capable of acting with the poise and professionalism required of a chuunin of Chusekigakure.
Above all she has a very exuberant sense of camaraderie, seeming to hold vanishingly little resentment towards the Uchiha or Yuki for their victory in the civil war. Although she seems to hold higher expectations for her own self-fulfillment, compared to the last few years of her life shinobi work is a godsend in just giving her anything to do, and she’s jumping back into it with a fervour to find something about it that she can truly enjoy and sink the rest of her life into. It’s not like there’s anything else for her!
History: Nobuko was born in a small Kaguya enclave in Hakkinkawa, a medium-sized and wealthy city in the mineral-rich eastern hills of the Mountain Country. She left the city at the age of six after her first demonstration of the Shikotsumyaku, when she fell out of a tree and instinctively retracted the protruding broken bone back into her body out of fright. As soon as she healed she was shipped off to Chusekigakure, sent to live with the clan residents who dedicate themselves to the village as shinobi.
A curious and self-motivated student, Nobuko showed strong potential even before entering the academy. Although the transition to a lonely mountainside with a much bitterer climate was rough for her, as with many Chuseki shinobi, she did not show much homesickness. This was aided by her parents being a touch warmer than many of the Kaguya clan, sending gifts frequently and bringing her home for visits whenever her strict studies and village officials would permit. To this day, her room in the Chusekigakure barracks is filled with keepsakes from home.
She graduated on time with her class and was promoted to chuunin just before the death of the Second Yamakage. Quicker than she could really think about it, the teenage girl was swept up in the fervor of war her fellow Kaguya and the Akimichi drummed up against the competing Uchiha and Yuki. Nobuko, although a talented shinobi, was faltering in her conviction and hesitated to fight her comrades - and what this mercy won her was a dizzying genjutsu and a kick down the side of one of the village’s treacherous cliffs. The fall was enough to break her spine, even with her tough genetics, and she was only able to survive by attempting to heal and secure it with highly limited medical expertise. When she was recovered a day later it was clear that she was going to be out of commission for quite a while. She’d lost fingers and toes to frostbite, and parts of her broken spine were melded awkwardly together in a way that would have to be dealt with very slowly and carefully lest she risk much more permanent nerve damage than she’d already sustained.
Uncommitted to lingering secessionist sentiments floating around the Kaguya, Nobuko was quickly cleared of any potential charges after her side’s defeat and allowed to receive rehabilitative treatment. She was paired up with a medical ninja specializing in the nervous system and quickly gained an interest in the field, having previously simply assumed herself physically invincible like her clan boasted. Once her skeleton was properly reconfigured she spent years regaining her former aptitude, first in physical therapy and then in training proper. For two years after she was deemed fit to return to service, the village consistently postponed, due to an effort to keep the reunification of the village’s forces gradual and a general air of mistrust towards the Kaguya specifically. During this time she was also barred from leaving the village, leaving her bored and unhappy, her only saving grace being other shinobi she’d befriended. She has not heard a word from her family since a brief correspondence where she filled them in on her injuries.
Nobuko recently recieved the all-clear to return to shinobi work, and as she begins her story on this forum she's just getting back into the swing of things.

RP Sample: If you were one of the cliff-dwelling birds nesting in Chusekigakure’s outer face, you’d see the sun setting over hazy mountains in the distance. If you looked closer, just across a deep gulf of cool mist, you might see a large building build into one of the sturdier karsts rising out of the grey. If you flew across to investigate, you would find the wide round windows of the village’s Chuunin barracks, and through one of those one moderately disappointed young woman.
For a brief moment Nobuko thought the letter might actually be from her clan.
Mail isn’t very common for her. Anybody who wants to talk to her are close enough to come say hello on foot. After a brief glimpse at the wax seal it’s obvious that this one is addressed from the village. Just across the bridge! Close enough to come talk to her too, really. Nobuko stares blearily at it, not really caring to read another update of ‘stay where you are and do nothing for another three months’.
In the background, her boxy yellow ‘portable’ radio crackles indistinctly. She’d briefly managed to find a station from outside the village that was reaching this far, but it’d cut out… a while ago, now. So she’s just been listening to static. Better than what the village’s stations have to offer! Such wonderful selections as ‘monotone news updates for shinobi’, ‘slightly less monotone news updates for families of shinobi’, ‘string instruments but not really fun’, ‘love advice from a silky-voiced and always wrong old guy’, and ‘spirited advice about mountain goat care’ (the only good one).
God, she’s so bored.
Nobuko gently tears the end of the envelope bit by bit and draws out the letter. She looks at it, squints, reaches over to flick on the lights. She looks again. She twists her face into… some kind of expression, surely.
“Fun,” she says to herself dully. A mission. She’s going on a mission after five years of being in shinobi purgatory. Hip hip hooray. Maybe she can finally get promoted and get better digs. Or get clearance to leave the village again so she can go tell her clan that if they want to die in battle so bad they can do it their damn selves… well, that’d be a little unfair. A pang of instinctive guilt runs through her chest.
Nobuko doesn’t understand why she’s not excited. Well, it’ll come with time! Maybe she just doesn’t quite believe it yet. That must be it. She glances to the rotary dial phone installed into the wall by her door and gets up, shuffling to her little kitchenette. On the counter is a phone pad with several names and numbers recorded, many numbers scratched out and rewritten, and alongside it are a small stack of delivery menus. She grazes her fingers over the pad first… and then hovers them over the menus…
She’s got one phone call left for the week, and she’s already used all but one on ordering food… she should really…
“Hullo. May I get something for delivery please. Your couriers go across to the karsts, right? ...Alright, good…”
